Over the past few weeks our class has been making picture books. I enjoyed doing this because I got to create my own story. What I found hard was planning my story. Next time I will make my images more interesting.
I was a student at St Bernadette's Primary School. This is a place where I shared my learning.

I looked around and I froze I didn’t know what to do. I started trembling with fear my heart started to beat faster and faster. I started to breathe heavily. I swallowed hard. I tried to speak but my mouth was locked I tried to take a step but my legs felt like they were glued to the ground. I felt shivers down my spine and goosebumps started appearing on my arms.

The Holidays
This week our class has been writing recounts about the holidays. What I found hard using descriptive words. Next time I will try and add more information.
The Holidays
In the holidays me and my friends went to Riccarton mall to watch a movie.
On Monday the 23rd of April me and my friends went to Riccarton mall to watch a movie. When we arrived to Riccarton mall and went into the cinemas it was as quiet as a mouse. After waiting for a while the movie started.
When the movie ended we went to look around the mall for awhile. After we looked around the mall we decided to go soyo. Next me and my friends went out of the mall and went to soyo to get some frozen yogurt. After we finished our frozen yogurt me and my friends decided to go to timezone.
When we arrived to timezone it was as loud as truck driving down the road. Me and my friends played some games for awhile but as time flies by it was almost time to go home.
When it was almost time to go home we went back to the mall and looked around for a while. But when it was time to go we went back to the movies and waited for our parents then went home.

One frosty cold day in an extremely warm house there lived a very mischievous mouse named Rose. Rose was always naughty, cheeky, fearless and very doughty. Rose always blames her little mouse friend for the trouble she caused, which never end very well at all. One time she threw a hard thing over the window and it shattered. Soon after the incident she blamed her friend and said “She did it!”.
Rose always hunted for cheese to nibble but only the cheese made her mouth dribble. One day she snuck out of bed to steal some cheese but when she got closer she started to dribble. She just couldn’t wait to nibble. But when she arrive when the cheese was kept she spotted the cheese that made her mouth dribble. the light as bright as the sun switched on and Rose got spotted. Rose got put in the cold for the pass night, and that was when her lies ended from then.

Show Not Tell
WALT: Use show not tell in our writing. Our task was to write two paragraphs about a moment in time with the picture we have been given to write about. Next time I will add more detail.
The Man
As the frosty wind rattles the wooden hut the sound of branches brushing against the window. The man collapses with exhaustion and sends shivers down his spin. He lies with his back to the frosty cold wall then closes his eyes, and listens to the ecos making their way through the hut.
The man starts to tremble as the sound of raindrops cascading down the window pichs up more and more volume. Every raindrop that falls the more ecos making their way to the man. Suddenly the moon is revealed and shines through the window and onto the man revealing him.

How Does Mould Form
WALT: Use the correct structure to create an explanation text and use language features appropriate to an explanation text. What I could improve on is adding more detail. I enjoyed doing this because I learnt new things.
How does mould form?
Have you ever wondered how mould forms? Mould is not a plant or an animal. Moulds can grow on (inorganic or organic) materials e.g fabric, paper, plastic, wood, liquids, solids, soap, roofs. They can also grow on food e.g bread, orange, tomato, cheese.
Firstly moulds start off as a little spore that are airborne. Spores feed on plants and materials. Spores are able to live for a very long time. Moulds loves warm and wet places. So once the spores land on favourable land it sends out a very thin tube that is hair-like called Hypha / Hyphae.
The Hypha / Hyphae is the root of the mould. The Hypha / Hyphae breaks down the food source for the mould, the Hypha / Hyphae also absorbs the nutrients as well. Using the food source more hypha/hyphae will grow. The more nutrients the Hypha / Hyphae absorb the bigger the mould will grow.
When the hyphae forms a crisscrossed mat it is called mycelium that looks like a cobweb. The part of the mould we usually see is the fruiting body because it comes from the mycelium. The primary function of the fruiting body launches the next spores into the world.
So when the spores land on favourable land the new generation comes and the process starts all over again.

Hanmer Springs
WALT: Use the correct structure for a recount. The first week of term two we are learning to write a recount. I enjoyed doing this because I get to write about what I did in the holidays. Next time I will try to improve on adding more detail.
Hanmer Springs
On Saturday the 29th of April me and my family were planning to go to Hanmer Springs. We left at about 9:00 am to 10:00 am in the morning. Me and my family were so excited.
When we arrived at Hanmer Springs we first went to check in a Hotel for one night. After we checked in the Hotel we went to have lunch at a Restaurant right next to our Hotel. The food at the Restaurant was very delicious.
After we had lunch we went back to the Hotel and got our stuff ready to go to the swimming pools / Hot pools. A few minutes later we were off to the swimming pools / Hot pools. When we arrived at the swimming pools / hot pools we went to the changing rooms. When we were all changed we went into a hot pool.
The next thing we did is go on the water slide. The water slide was like a squiggly snake. After that me my dad and my brother went on the super bowl together, while my Mum watched us sliding down together while she was in the hot pool.
At the end of the day it was time to go home. When we got out of the hot pools we were shivering cold. We felt like we were as cold as an ice block. After we were all changed we had dinner at a Restaurant and went back to the Hotel.
On the second day we checked out of the Hotel and we started to drive to the jet boat. A few minutes later we arrived at the jet boat, first we had to put on rain coats and life jackets for safety. After we put all our gear on we went to the jet boat. When everyone was on the jet boat the driver started the engine. Then suddenly the jet boat zoomed off it felt like it was as fast as a plane taking off.
When the jet boat ride was over we got changed, then we went back to the car and drove back home.
When we got home I said to myself that was such an awesome time at Hanmer Springs. I wish we could go to Hanmer Spring again.

The Anzac Puppy
W.A.L.T to write a flash back from a different perspective using show not tell. Next time I could add more detail.
The Anzac Puppy
It was a shivering cold winter at night I was born. My name is Freda. One day my owner put me in a box to see if anyone wanted to have me. I was so confused I wondered why my owner put me in a box. In the afternoon a Soldier named Sam saw me and wanted to have me. So the Soldier took me to war with him. But he promised the girl Named Lucy he would bring me back safe and sound. So Sam trained with me to get ready for war.
When people started attacking Sam and I were frightened and confused. A few minutes later me and Sam were starting to melt, there were loud noises in the background. BOOM, CRASH, SMASH! We wondered when is this going to end. Days later the crashes have stopped and the land was silent. No one was fighting and there were no loud noises. A few seconds later we heard the good news the war has ended. So now we can go home. So me and Sam started to walk home. When we got to the house we didn’t see a little girl we saw a woman. Lucy was no longer a girl anymore she is a woman. Sam was no longer a boy anymore he was a man, and I was no longer a puppy I was All grown up. Lucy was so surprised to see me and I was surprised to see her as well.
